Obiettivi formativi

The teaching contributes to the realization of the educational objective of the course in Environmental Biology, allowing the student to acquire expertise on the ecology of vertebrates, main threats to biodiversity conservation and strategies to preserve biodiversity.

Strengthening the concepts of environment and threatened species. Understand natural and anthropic pressures that act on vertebrates and the environments where they live.

Acquire skills in advanced ecology and in conservation biology, in order to be able to carry out research involving vertebrates and habitat monitoring and work in the fields of ecology and conservation biology.

At the end of the teaching, the student should have the following knowledge and skills:

Knowledge and understanding

  • In-depth knowledge of the ecological characteristics of vertebrates;
  • Knowledge of the main vertebrate species present in Italy;
  • An understanding of the main threats affecting vertebrates, such as habitat loss and fragmentation, the introduction of invasive species;

Examinations will be held in presence. The exam consists of a written test with the administration of multiple-choice questions and open questions. Following the delivery of the written results, students can also choose to take a further oral test to change their grade. The final mark will, therefore, consist of the result of the written only or the average of the written and oral texts for those who choose this second option. The written and oral exams are marked out of thirty.

NB, as a result of the oral exam, the final grade will be calculated as the average of the two tests (written and oral); it may, therefore, be higher, lower, or equivalent to the written grade.
